SIOUX FALLS - Senator Billie Sutton’s campaign for South Dakota Governor today filed it’s pre-general finance report demonstrating historic fundraising success, raising over $2.7 million dollars throughout the campaign – far more than any other Democrat running for Governor in South Dakota’s history. Sutton’s grassroots support is apparent, with more than 7000 contributors to the movement and more than 80% of contributions being $100 or less.
With more than 90% of all dollars raised coming from South Dakotans, it’s clear that Sutton’s focus on the people of South Dakota has been met with enthusiast support. Nine in ten dollars came from individuals, with more than 17k donations coming in over the past 17 months – more than doubling Sutton’s donor base since the primary election in June.
Regarding the unprecedented fundraising success, Sutton said:
“It means so much to me that South Dakotans believe in me and trust me to bring the state together around our shared values. Folks are donating, volunteering, and engaging with the political process like never before, and I believe we have the momentum to win this race and build a stronger, more united South Dakota!”
Billie Sutton is a rancher, financial professional at a small community bank, State Senator, former professional rodeo cowboy, fifth-generation South Dakotan, and candidate for Governor.
