BURKE–– This week, Senator Sutton released "Consistent Common Sense: From the Senate to South Dakota's Highest Office," a document outlining his legislative priorities over his eight years in the South Dakota State Senate.
Senator Sutton said, “I’ve talked to folks all over the state, and having a government they can trust, a good economy, strong schools, and access to healthcare are as important to them as ever. I’m proud of the work I’ve accomplished in the Senate and look forward to continuing to build a stronger South Dakota for all of us.”
Sutton summarized his accomplishments, proposals, and major efforts into four categories:
Government Integrity: Sutton has worked tirelessly to ensure our government is one South Dakotans can trust. South Dakota ranked 47th and received an F rating when the Center for Public Integrity graded the integrity of our state government, but Senator Sutton has introduced several measures to begin to remedy South Dakota's accountability and transparency problems.
Economic and Workforce Development: Another of Sutton’s focuses has been making sure South Dakota is doing all we can as a state to invest in our people and attract good jobs for South Dakota families. He’s made his top priorities clear with plans for career and training programs, affordable housing, and smart economic investments.
Education: One of the first issues to draw Senator Sutton into public service was education, and it’s always been an issue he cares deeply about. He served on the Blue Ribbon Task-Force to get teachers' pay more competitive in the region and has worked to study the need for early childhood education in the state.
Healthcare: Access to healthcare continues to be a concentration of Sutton's, and he’s worked over the years to keep rural hospitals open, support our nursing homes, and attract healthcare professionals to work here.
