Press Release – Sutton In Strong Financial Position for General Election

BURKE – As pre-primary finance reports go online today in the South Dakota Governor’s race, Senator Billie Sutton's campaign is in a strong position. With nearly $880,000 cash on hand, Sutton reports a $300k cash advantage over Jackley and is within striking distance of Noem.

Without a costly primary race, Sutton has maintained much lower spending rates while raising enough to be competitive in the race. Sutton has spent less than 30% of his overall funds, while Noem has expended 63% and Jackley has burned through 73% of funds. If all three candidates continue spending and fundraising at the rates they have been in 2018, Sutton stands to have the most cash on hand by the Primary on June 5.

As Noem and Jackley exhaust their donors and deplete their funds in a close primary race, Sutton continues unprecedented fundraising success and benefits from his conservative spending strategy. The most recent report shows Sutton will have the finances to win, no matter the opponent.
